Legend of the Great Monkey Sage
The Monkey King is perhaps the most famous character of Asian legend. Monkey King became popular thanks to the classic Chinese literature "Journey to the West". Although the true author was unkown for quite some time, due to the political situation outlawing such forms of art, Wu Cheng En is believed to be the authour. The story follows the famous monk Xuan Zang, who traveled to India to translate the true Buddhist holy books into Chinese. The Monkey King is one of the main characters who must help the monk on his journey by protecting him from various dangers using his incredible powers. The Monkey King had so much power that he was even able to challenge the gods. He had countless names either given by others or self proclaimed. Readers can see the Monkey King’s arrogance, by the language used in these self-proclaimed titles; such as: "Illustrious Monkey Equal to Heaven". The Monkey King originally used his powers for mischief, but over time becomes a great hero.
Since then many things have taken inspiration from the trials of the Monkey King including various martial arts styles, television shows, movies, comic books, video games, and much more. One cannot visit China without seeing countless Monkey King products.
This school is named after The Great Monkey Sage for two reasons; one of the final systems taught at this school is the monkey system, the other is because Sifu was nicknamed Monkey King by his master when he was a kid. In fact while in China Studying under Zhu Tian Xi, Sifu once again was compared to the Monkey King by his peers and master.
